Ultra Blue/ Toxic Green Frogspawn

Frogspawn coral (Euphyllia divisa) is a popular LPS (Large Polyp Stony) coral known for its flowing tentacles and vibrant colors. It is relatively hardy and can thrive in a well-maintained reef tank. Here’s a guide to proper care:
Tank Requirements
• Lighting: Moderate to high (T5, LED, or Metal Halide). Avoid excessive light intensity, which can cause bleaching.
• Flow: Moderate, indirect flow. Too much flow can cause the tentacles to retract and stress the coral.
• Tank Size: Suitable for various tank sizes, but it requires enough space to accommodate its growth and sweeper tentacles.
Water Parameters
• Temperature: 76-80°F (24-27°C)
• Salinity: 1.024-1.026 SG
• pH: 8.1-8.4
• Alkalinity: 8-12 dKH
• Calcium: 400-450 ppm
• Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm
• Nitrates: Below 10 ppm (but not zero)
• Phosphates: Below 0.05 ppm
Feeding
• While frogspawn corals can obtain nutrients through photosynthesis (via symbiotic zooxanthellae), supplemental feeding helps growth:
• Feed small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or coral foods (2-3 times per week).
• Target feeding with a pipette or turkey baster can be beneficial.
Placement & Compatibility
• Keep at least 6 inches (15 cm) away from other corals due to aggressive sweeper tentacles.
• Compatible with many reef-safe fish and invertebrates but avoid species that nip at corals (like some butterflyfish or angelfish).
• Can be placed in the middle to lower areas of the tank, depending on lighting and flow.
Common Issues
• Bleaching: Due to excessive lighting or temperature fluctuations.
• Brown Jelly Disease: A bacterial infection causing tissue loss; remove affected parts immediately.
• Shrinking/Recession: Often due to poor water quality, lack of nutrients, or pests like flatworms.
With proper care, frogspawn corals can thrive and even grow into large colonies, adding beautiful movement to your reef tank. Let me know if you need specific advice!
