How to Dose Rhodopseudomonas palustris?

Typically introduced as a liquid culture.

Best dosed in areas of good flow but away from direct filtration to allow colonization.

Many aquarists start with small amounts and gradually increase based on tank response.

Dosing Guidelines (General Starting Point)

1. Initial Seeding Dose (For New or Unseeded Tanks)

2.5–5 mL per 10 L of tank water.

Dose in a high-flow area but not directly into filtration to allow proper bacterial establishment.

Reduce skimmer operation for 2–4 hours after dosing to avoid removing bacteria.

2. Maintenance Dose (For Established Tanks)

1.25–2.5 mL per 10 L every 3–7 days, depending on bio-load and nutrient levels.

Adjust dosage if you notice significant reductions in nitrate and phosphate or excessive bacterial blooms.

3. Problem-Solving Doses (For Specific Issues)

High Nitrate or Phosphate: Dose 2.5–5 mL per 10 L every other day until levels decline.

Cyanobacteria Control: Dose 2.5 mL per 10 L every 3–5 days and reduce excess nutrients.

Detritus & Water Clarity Issues: Dose 1.25–2.5 mL per 10 L weekly and ensure good flow

Additional Considerations

✅ Refugia & Sandbeds: If you have a deep sand bed or refugium, dose in these areas to enhance denitrification.
